Broken airplanes in Bangkok
Did you know that there is an airplanes graveyard right in the centre of Bangkok? (well pretty close to the centre)...
Getting there isn't too difficult and you can do it on your own without a guide so you can keep on your budget. see below some of my pictures and how to get there.
In the field there are 3-4 airplanes: one large cargo plane and some small passengers ones. As you know I LOVE both airplanes and abandoned places.. and as a cherry on top I found a piece of street art from one of my favourite artist JACE.
The area is full of scrap materials from the airplanes so wear closed shoes and try to avoid flip flops. To go on the 747 cockpit you have to climb the airplane so having comfortable shoes is definitely a must.
To get there I have used a combination of trains and taxi. I have taken from Phaya Thai station the Bangkok Airport Link and I have stopped at Hua Mak Station. The journey was around 20 minutes. Once there I went outside the station at the taxi rank and showed the address to the taxi driver but he couldn't work out how to get there; I then showed a picture of the place and he took me there (I don't remember how much was the taxi, but it is Bangkok so taxis are generally cheap, just ask them to use the meter!)
Once there you will see that the gate is locked. A family lives in one of the hangars next to the plane and you will have to give a small donation to get access to the airplanes (I gave 100THB). You can spend as much time as you want there, the only airplane you cannot access is the one where one of the families live.
To go back I took a taxi back to Hua Mak station.
The place is located at this address: 594 Soi Ramkhamhaeng 107, Khwaeng Hua Mak, Bangkok
