Goodbye Rochor Centre
Since I moved to Singapore in June 2016 I have visited the Rochor Centre (a complex of public flats and shops) many times, probably too many!
It became immediately my favourite spot in the city and I felt somehow at home and always happy and inspired just being there. In a very sterile city where everything looks the same, Rochor was a great reminder that it is OK to be different and it is OK to stand out from the crowd ....shame that Singaporean authorities have decided to demolished it to make space for a new expressway ( just to make the city even more BORING and more GREY)
Rochor Centre was built in the 60s but the iconic bright colours were only painted on the facades in 1994 when the complex went through a total revamp. The complex had 183 shops and 567 houses.
