LIECHTENSTEIN

I had a free weekend at the end of August so I have decided to finally visit Liechtenstein. It has been on my list ( like probably every other country) for a long time. This blog post will be mostly to write how to get there from Zurich and the places that I had visited.

I flew from Stockholm to Zurich for a long weekend and I took a day trip to explore a couple of places in Liechtenstein. Getting to Liechtenstein is very easy, not super cheap tho.

From Zurich Central Station I took a train to Sargans, the train runs every 30 minutes and the one-way ticket cost was 33 CHF. Once in Sargans, I took a bus to Vaduz. The bus runs quite frequently, around every 20 minutes. I was very surprised they did not accept card payments on the bus so I had to withdraw some Swiss Francs to pay for the bus. This was a bit annoying since I didn't want to end up again with the leftover of a currency that I will never use again. The bus to Vaduz takes around 15-20 minutes. The return bus ticket was 13 CHF.

Vaduz is relatively small and I ended up of things to see and do within 4 hours. Liechtenstein is very expensive so be prepared for everything to be super-pricey. Vaduz has very interesting architectures, some traditional and some more modern with pieces of art all around the city center. The postal museum was very interesting (and FREE!) with a nice collection of soviet stamps to celebrate the Russian space program. In the same building of the postal museum, there is the treasure chamber with a collection of art and jewels that belong to the Prince of Liechtenstein.

On my way back I stopped in Balzers. This village is on the same bus route back to Sargans. This was a pleasant stop since there is a nice castle to see, in my opinion, better than the Vaduz one. From the top of the castle, you can see the city and the surrounding mountains and vineyards. Unfortunately, the castle is not open to the public but it is still a nice architecture to explore.
